Helsinki Airport is the main international airport in Finland, and 130 airports around the world have direct flights to Helsinki. Helsinki Airport is located 20 kilometres from Helsinki city centre, and you can reach the Helsinki city center easily from the airport by taking a direct 30-minute commuter train. Helsinki Airport's train station is located under the terminal. There is a direct elevator and escalator connection from the departures and arrivals hall to the train station. Local I and P trains operate to and from Helsinki Airport, and the train takes about 30 minutes. Local train tickets can be purchased from HSL's mobile app, or from the ticket machine at the train platform, or just simply using contactless payment by tapping your debit or credit card at the reader. Timetables, tickets and fares for local trains can be found from the app and on HSL website. Traveling in Finland and using the public transport is safe and easy. In fact, Finland is consistently ranked one of the world’s safest countries. Finnish public transport system is efficient and reliable. Thus, we highly recommend the participants to use public transport, especially commuter train to and from the Helsinki airport and metro to and from Aalto University. |

Metro in Helsinki is the fastest way around, safe and clean, easy and affordable. Read more here. Helsinki metro is very easy because there are only two metro lines going to east and west. We recommend the conference participants to take a metro from Helsinki city center to Aalto University and back. HSL offers a contactless payment option for buying single tickets. You do not need to download an app to buy a ticket — just select the zones and tap your debit or credit card directly on the reader when you board. For metro, you must buy your ticket at a card reader before entering the payment area. At most metro stations, the payment area begins at the card readers located at the top of the escalators to the platforms. On buses, trams, and trains, simply tap your debit or credit card at the reader when you board. Read more here. From Helsinki city center, you need to take metro line M1 or M2 which both go to the Aalto University metro station. Just make sure that you are going to the right direction. |
