How to get to Campus Woudestein?

The hub of Erasmus University Rotterdam is the Woudestein campus, which is a 15-minute bike ride or 20-minute tram ride away from the city center.

Cycling

There are numerous options in the city center to rent a bike. You can also find (electric) shared bikes in many places in Rotterdam, such as those offered by Donkey Republic or LIME Bikes. So, instead of renting a bike, you can hop on a shared bike and get to campus or the other venues quickly.

Public transport

Rotterdam has an excellent public transport system, provided by the RET. RET is the independent public transport company that serves the southern part of the Randstad conurbation. With the trams or subway of the RET, you can travel to the campus.

From Rotterdam Central Station

  • Tram 7, direction Woudestein, stop 'Erasmus Universiteit'.

  • Tram 21 or 24 direction De Esch. Stop 'Woudestein' our 'Oude Plantage'.
  • Subway, line D (direction De Akkers) or E (direction Slinge). Transfer at Beurs, to subway lines A (direction Binnenhof), B (direction Nesselande), or C (De Terp). Get off the subway at station Kralingse Zoom. This subway is within walking distance (10 minutes) of the campus.

From Rotterdam Alexander

  • Subway lines A (direction Vlaardingen West or Schiedam Centrum), B (direction Hoek van Holland) or C (direction De Akkers). Get off the subway at station Kralingse Zoom. This subway is within walking distance (10 minutes) of the campus.

How to travel by public transport?

You need a valid public transport card to travel by public transport.

There are various types of public transport cards:

    • RET 1 day: for sale at RET service shops and service centers, Rotterdam Tourist Information (Central Station and Hoek van Holland).
    • RET 2 hours: for sale at Rotterdam Tourist Information, sales desks, ticket machines in metro stations, for sale from the bus driver (only pin, no cash) and for sale in the trams (pin and cash).
    • RET Tourist Day Ticket: One day unlimited travel throughout South Holland (bus, tram, metro & waterbus): for sale at RET service shops and service centers, Rotterdam Tourist Information (Central Station and Hoek van Holland) or vending and recharging machines in metro stations.

Check the prices of the public transport card on the RET website.

If you’re taking a short trip, have a low balance, or don’t want to buy a public transport card, you can now also check in with OV-pay. It’s the new way of checking in and out on public transport (OV) in the Netherlands. You can do this contactless with your debit card or credit card. Important: make sure that you check-in at your departure stop and check-out at your arrival stop.

Note that RET is only used in Rotterdam and surrounding areas.
